Organic Solutions Inc. says facility in Lakeland, Fla., will be operational in 2014.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has issued the first Solid Waste Organics Recycling Pilot Project (SWORPP) permit to Compact Solutions Inc. d/b/a Organic Solutions Inc. (OSI).
OSI, a d/b/a of Compact Solutions Inc., will be operating what the company says is the first SWORPP permitted in Florida. The facility is located at 4345 US Hwy 92 East, Lakeland, Fla.
The OSI facility will be the first in North America to employ its bio-thermic digester (BTD) for processing of organic solid waste. The BTD unit will process 10 tons of organic waste per day with zero greywater output, according to the company. Current operational data shows an average organic waste reduction of greater than 90 percent, with the added benefits of clean water output and electrical generation, says OSI. The company adds that no preprocessing of the waste stream is required.
OSI is offering this technology in the United States. The company says it can take 100 pounds of organic waste and make it into only 2 pounds overnight. Similarly, 10 tons of Class 1 waste will be processed into 5 tons of sterile product in 24 hours, while concurrently generating electricity and producing clean water.
The first OSI facility is scheduled to be online by the first quarter of 2014.
