California firm to investigate Spokane, Washington, WTE accident

Exponent Inc., a Menlo Park, California-based investigative will investigate an October boiler accident that badly burned two workers at Spokane, Washington’s waste-to-energy facility.

According to a report in The Spokesman Review, Spokane City Council signed off on a contract authorizing the firm to investigate the Oct. 4 incident at the waste-to-energy plant. The accident inside one of the facilities boilers critically burned Craig Law and Larry Pratt. The contract authorizes expenses for up to $48,700. Work is expected to begin immediately.

The Department of Labor and Industries also is investigating the incident, the report adds.

The article also notes that Law had been released from a local hospital after treatment for steam burns.
