According to the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA), Washington, navigating the government system for identifying the industry waste and recycling companies operate in can be confusing and many companies are not aware of the intricacies of selecting the proper numeric industry code under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) that represents their operations.
Throughout government agencies, data are collected using these codes, so it is important for companies to know their codes(s) for proper classification, the association says.
In an effort to clarify and simplify the process for waste and recycling companies, NWRA has prepared a white paper that isolates those NAICS codes specific to our industry and those ancillary NAICS codes commonly used by companies in the industry.
A PDF copy of the NAICS white paper is available at http://wasterecycling.org/images/documents/Safety/NAICS-Code-White-Paper.pdf.
