The Washington-based National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Women’s Council has announced it will hold a 50/50 raffle as a fundraiser during the 2016 WasteExpo in Las Vegas, June 7-8, 2016.
This effort supports the annual Women’s Council Scholarship, which helps students in the industry or those who aspire to join the industry achieve their goals in higher education, the NWRA says. Women’s Council members will walk the show floor to sell raffle tickets for $20 each. The drawing will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 8, at WasteExpo. Winners do not need to be present to accept their prizes, NWRA says.
“All the profits will go toward the Women’s Council Scholarships to help students pursuing a career in the waste and recycling industry,” says Tammy Holtzman, president of the NWRA Women’s Council and district manager at Progressive Waste Solutions. “Purchasing a ticket provides a low-cost and easy way for individuals to help develop new talent, business innovation and growth in waste and recycling.”
This year’s three awardees will be honored at the annual NWRA Awards Breakfast Tuesday, June 7, during WasteExpo. In the past eight years, NWRA Women’s Council says it has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to men and women pursuing a career in the industry.
The council says it also will host recruitment and social activities at WasteExpo, including an espresso bar Tuesday, June 7, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the NWRA booth, No. 4533. Participants can join the Women’s Council members for coffee and cookies to learn more about the council and the benefits of membership. Despite its name, the council says its membership is open to both genders.
