N+P produces Subcoal from nonrecyclable paper and plastic waste.
Netherlands-based N+P has announced it will expand its cooperation for the delivery of high-grade Subcoal pellets with Dyckerhoff in Germany. Dyckerhoff has served the cement and concrete building products industry for 150 years, the company says.

Subcoal is produced at the Qlyte facility in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. The Qlyte facility produces about 65,000 metric tons of Subcoal pellets per year through the processing of approximately 100,000 tons of nonrecyclable paper and plastic waste fractions which otherwise would have ended in landfill or waste incineration, N+P says. The Subcoal is used to replace lignite dust or bituminous coal at power stations, lime kilns and cement kilns.
Dyckerhoff began using Subcoal two years ago and since then the companies have worked together to improve the alternative fuel for optimal use in their kilns. The cooperation has led to a new Subcoal fuel which is used at the Dyckerhoff kiln in Lengerich. Furthermore the kiln in Geseke, Germany, will continue to use the standard Subcoal quality.
According to its website N+P is one of the largest players in the field of recycling various qualities of paper sludge in Europe. Paper sludge, a residual product from the paper industry, consists roughly of 25 percent fiber, 25 percent filler (clay or lime) and 50 percent water. The composition depends on the quality of the paper produced, the raw material used and the settings in the production process.
