Similar violations were identified during 2011 audit.
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has fined Agilyx Corp. $45,600 for hazardous waste management violations at its plastics-to-fuel facility in Portland, Oregon.
The facility is developing a production process that converts plastic scrap into crude oil.
The DEQ says violations included failing to properly label containers containing hazardous waste, failing to mark containers with accumulation start dates, failure to store waste only within the 90-day limit, storing hazardous waste in closed containers and maintaining a current contingency plan.
The DEQ also cited the company, without penalty, for failing to leave adequate aisle space between containers and failing to store universal waste in closed containers.
In a statement, the Oregon DEQ says it is particularly concerned because it identified similar violations during a 2011 environmental audit and during a 2013 inspection of an Agilyx facility in Tigard, Oregon.
In determining the penalty amount, the DEQ says it took into consideration the company’s efforts to correct the violations. Currently there is no hazardous waste at the Portland facility.
Agilyx had until April 2, 2015, to appeal the penalty.
