The Oklahoma Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) in Stillwater, Oklahoma, has endowed a scholarship at the University of Oklahoma. The chapter’s contributions will ensure an annual award to promising undergraduates in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability.

“This has been a long time goal of the Oklahoma Indian Nations Chapter,” says Treasurer Ken Purdy. “We have provided the resources and the university will manage the process of identifying students who excel in our field.”
In 2016, the chapter contributed $25,000 to the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma who also added a $5,000 match. The foundation and the university will work together to make the annual student award.
Chapter Chair David Griesel adds, “With the continued financial success of the chapter we hope to create similar scholarship programs at other Oklahoma universities. Education is a core SWANA mission for our current members as well as our industry’s future work force.”
