XR shredder is designed for RDF and alternative fuel production.
Visitors to the U.K.’s RWM event and CIWM 2014 exhibition, set for Sept. 14-16, in Birmingham, U.K., will have an opportunity to see UNTHA’s new XR waste shredder for refuse-derived fuel (RDF) and alternative fuel production.
The new shredder, which was first promoted by the company in May 2014, will be on display during the annual event at the NEC Birmingham.
According to UNTHA UK, the XR waste shredder is the first shredder to be designed and manufactured in UNTHA’s new innovation center in Kuchl, Austria. The company says the XR is unique in that it has been designed to increase operators’ profitability and reduce energy consumption by up to 50 percent by virtue of the UNTHA Eco Drive technology. The company says this feature could help operators save in excess of $850,000 in electricity costs in less than five years.
UNTHA UK also says the XR shredder is among the most flexible on the market, achieving throughputs of close to 80 tons per hour. The XR offers two distinct cutting concepts that can be configured and reconfigured as clients’ requirements evolve, UNTHA UK says, and can achieve a precision shred with homogenous particles as small as 50 millimeters in a single pass.
“With this RDF shredder, which is also suitable for untreated bulky waste shredding, we can offer throughput, flexibility, precision, uptime, energy-efficiency, cost savings and noise minimization, that customers don’t even think possible,” says Chris Oldfield, managing director of UNTHA UK.

UNTHA UK says visitors to the RWM event also will be able to download the new XR shredding app, allowing them to view the machine in 3D.
Also on display during the event will be an UNTHA RS40 four-shaft shredding system with conveyor, enabling delegates to learn more about what the company describes as the most renowned shredder in UNTHA’s product lineup. UNTHA UK says this configurable machine is ideal for the cost-effective processing of numerous recyclates including waste electrical and electronic equipment, confidential waste, packaging materials, organics, cables, textiles and more.
Several members of the UNTHA UK team will also be onsite along with a number of senior personnel from UNTHA Shredding Technology, including CEO Alois Kitzberger who is based out of the company’s Austria offices.
