Tenth edition of Hong Kong environmental fair will cater to recycling, green building and waste-to-energy sectors.
Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., co-organizer of the Eco Expo Asia event, has announced the 10th edition of the environmental fair will take place Oct. 28-31 at Hong Kong’s Asia World Center, adjacent to Hong Kong’s airport.
The October 2014 version of the expo welcomed a record-breaking 308 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions and hosted more than 10,800 attendees from 89 countries and regions, according to Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., which organizes the event along with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Environment Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
“Eco Expo Asia is a unique and premium environmental trade event [that] will further give impetus to sustainable development in Hong Kong and the wider Asia Pacific region,” says Wong Kam-sing, secretary for the environment of the Government of the HKSAR.
The 2015 version of Eco Expo Asia will focus on the theme “Embracing a Green and Sustainable Future” and will include additional targeted themes on certain days, including “Cleaner Production and Waste Management,” “Green Building and Energy Efficiency,” “Global Green Insights,” and “Green Living.”
Business opportunities for the green industry in Asia are bountiful, says Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., with the region’s annual expenditure on solid waste management expected to reach $50 billion by 2025.
In the green building sector, the People’s Republic of China has stated its intentions to curb building energy consumption by increasing the use of renewables and complying with the revised Green Building Evaluation Standard, creating “immense business opportunities for the entire industry,” according to the organizers of Eco Expo Asia.
In Hong Kong itself, an attempt to minimize landfilling practices going forward has prompted the Hong Kong government to target converting 3,000 metric tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) and 1,500 metric tons of sludge into energy by 2020 at “state-of-the-art” integrated waste management facilities. “This is bound to boost the demand for waste management solutions, waste treatment technologies and waste-to-energy facilities,” say the event’s organizers.
