In spring 2012, the Recycling Today Media Group decided to launch a new magazine. Having covered the recycling industry for the past 50 years, it was clear a new industry had been developing for the last few years and needed a media outlet.
As companies embrace sustainability and recyclers continue to meet the demands of their customers’ zero-waste and environmental initiatives, the waste and recycling industry needed to find innovative solutions to divert more materials from the landfill, and so began a push to develop technologies that could take hard-to-recycle plastics, material recovery facility (MRF) residues and organic waste and capture energy value from those streams.
Renewable Energy from Waste magazine launched in April 2012 to cover the developments of the waste-to-energy industry as well as to provide operational and technical information to the industry. Over the past year we’ve had no trouble filling pages month after month with news on companies who are entering the energy-from-waste industry and on various waste conversion technologies that are being developed. We’ve profiled major projects and companies who have had success turning waste and residues into energy and fuel.
We’ve talked to them about their processes, their equipment, their formulas and the financing avenues they have taken to achieve success. I’ve received a lot of positive feedback from our readers over the past year that the information provided in the magazine is serving this emerging industry well.
Building on the success of the magazine, we’ve decided to launch a conference to further serve the needs of the waste-conversion industry. You will soon have an opportunity to learn about the projects and companies we’ve been covering in the magazine firsthand and meet the people responsible for their development.
This fall, the waste-to-energy community will come together for three days of educational sessions, exhibits and tours all designed to help attendees gain insight into the economics, technology and regulatory environment needed to make these projects successful. The inaugural Renewable Energy From Waste Conference will take place Nov. 18-20 at the Marriott West Palm Beach, in West Palm Beach, Fla. Helping us formulate and plan the event are waste industry consulting veterans Gershman, Brickner and Bratton (GBB) and conference management firm Smithers Apex.
Together we are combining our areas of expertise to provide a top-notch conference at an affordable rate. Several speakers and exhibitors already have confirmed their attendance, and we want you to be there too. You can learn more about the conference by visiting www.REWConference.com. I hope to see you there.
