Capstone Turbine Corp., a Chatsworth, California-based manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, has received an order for a C1000 microturbine to upgrade Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto Oy's solid waste treatment facility in Tampere, Finland.

The system, which was sold by Sarlin Oy Ab, Helsinki, Finland, Capstone's distributor for Finland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, is expected to be commissioned by early 2016.

The new microturbine will be fueled by landfill biogas collected from two stations on-site. The C1000 microturbine will be installed in a combined heat and power (CHP) application, along with a 1400-kilowatt exhaust heat exchanger, booster and automation and gas treatment systems. The system will convert organic solid waste into renewable energy for the waste treatment facility.

Additionally, the microturbine’s exhaust will be captured to provide thermal heat at the highest efficiency possible.

"Finland is on target to meet its renewable energy source (RES) target of 38 percent by 2020," says Jim Crouse, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Capstone Turbine. "The progress being made in the global renewable energy market is indicative of a shift to renewable power production, and we are proud to be at the forefront of this movement.”
