The CNIM Group has awarded the equipment company four repeat orders to supply equipment to greenfield plants.
The Finland-based equipment company Metso has been awarded four repeat orders from the CNIM Group, Paris, to supply automation to alternative energy greenfield plants in France and the U.K. With the sale, Metso has now received a total of 12 orders from CNIM for similar projects since 2011.
The orders are meant for two greenfield waste-to-energy (WTE) plants in the U.K.— Battlefield and Leeds; and greenfield biomass-to-energy plants in Estrées-Mons, France, and Ridham Dock, U.K. The CNIM Group acts as a contractor for all four projects.
At the plants, Metso will supply its DNA automation system for all process controls and plant information management. The integrated process automation system covers all plant processes, from boilers to turbines. High-level reliability is ensured through an integrated and certified safety solution, says Metso.
Metso says its automation solutions play a significant role in managing WTE plants successfully and help them reach their goals of high performance, as well as safe and reliable operation, with a high degree of integration. Additionally, Metso says it provides substantive information on the process performance.
At the biomass-to-energy plants, Metso equipment will contribute to maximizing incineration capacity, keeping combustion and steam production stable while allowing high production process availability.
The waste-to-energy plant in Leeds is owned and will be operated by Paris-based Veolia Environmental Services (VES) (www.veoliaes.com/). It has been designed to process up to 20.5 tons of waste per hour of black bin waste, which will allow Leeds to achieve a target recycling rate of more than 60 percent. The facility, capable of creating 11 megawatts (MW) of electricity, is expected to go on-line in 2016.
The Battlefield, U.K. facility also is owned and will be operated by VES. The facility is designed to process 45 percent of the municipal waste produced in the county and generate enough electricity to power 10,000 households. The plant is expected to be operational in 2015.
The new biomass-to-energy plant in Estrées-Mons is owned and will be operated by Nerea, a subsidiary of the French group Akuo Energy. The plant, expected to be operational by the end of 2014, will have an electric output of 13 MW.
The Ridham Dock combined heat-and-power biomass power plant, owned by the German Mannheim Energy Company, is located near London and is designed to have an electrical output of 23 MW. It will use about 172,000 tons of old timber per year to generate almost 188 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year. The plant is scheduled to be operational in spring 2015.
